Bigfoot Church of Christ holds a special place in my heart.
Bigfoot Church of Christ holds a special place in my heart. I grew up and live in the San Antonio area but Bigfoot has been like my second home since I was a child. My family made frequent trips to Bigfoot from San Antonio back in the 1960's when my father, James Wilson, was the minister for many years. My mother, Jean Boyd Wilson, was born and raised in Bigfoot. My great grandparents were pioneers here. Both my maternal and paternal grandparents lived in the Bigfoot area along with uncles, aunts and cousins. Many still attend the church today!
I learned about Jesus at Bigfoot!
I learned about Jesus at Bigfoot Church of Christ! And I experienced the love of God's people here. That made an impression on me. As my father began to age, I wanted to come back to Bigfoot, while there was still time, and share with him in his ministry. So first I served as the worship leader beginning in 2017. After my father passed away in 2019, I began preaching duties as well. I am grateful for what I have received at Bigfoot Church of Christ--the love of a wonderful church, parents, grandparents, relatives and friends. I learned about Jesus at Bigfoot Church of Christ!
My Ministry Background
I have always had a special interest in ministry since I was a young adult. I am a graduate of Sunset School of Preaching, class of 1980; Abilene Christian University with a BA. in Biblical and Related Studies in 1985; a Master of Biblical and Related Studies; and dual Master of Divinity degree from Abilene Christian in 1990. I have ministered in several churches and have also trained and served as a hospital chaplain and hospice chaplain as well.
A Bi-Vocational Minister
I am a bi-vocational minister. I am proud of my regular work in addition to my church work. I am a big believer in the holiness, honorability and privilege of "secular" work. There is nothing "regular" about regular work. Rather, I believe it is special and holy to God and should be respected by all. I own a plant and tree nursery and am also a grower of ornamental and shade trees. My tree farm is in the Bigfoot area. I am passionate about trees and the Lord.
My Family
I am married and have three grown children and one grandchild. My wife Sherry is co-owner of our plant and tree nursery and is also a professional florist. Sherry's passion is her flowers and our little grandson.
I truly care about Bigfoot Church of Christ. "I learned about Jesus here!" We have always been a loving and encouraging church and I would like to continue that legacy.
